Dr. Raul Escarpio has a doctorate in special education and has 15 years of experience teaching students with special needs including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Emotional and/or Behavioral Disabilities. He currently prepares special education teachers at a Miami college. He was recently honored as the 2016 Council for Exceptional Children's Susan Phillips Gorin Award "awarded annually to a CEC professional member, especially CEC student chapter advisors, who demonstrates exemplary personal and professional qualities and make outstanding contributions to CEC and to children with exceptionalities."
As a national consultant in special education, he provides professional and consultative services to Catholic schools who service students with special needs. He has consulted and met with leaders from the federal to the local level on issues dealing with special education. Furthermore, has presented at the local, national, and international level on issues and best practices in special education.
Every presentation is done from a Catholic perspective and focuses on how to best service God’s children. As the Vatican stated recently, “…diversities related to the presence of particular situations of frailness, affecting cognitive abilities or physical autonomy, should always be recognized and embraced. Those who find themselves in greater difficulties, who are poorer, more fragile or needy, should not be seen as a burden or obstacle, but as the most important students…”
He considers himself blessed that he is able to share his love for God and students with special needs when he presents.
